Zayas (Deep² / Late Nite Amigos / Afrobeta Bodega)
MUSIC / Zayas has been at the forefront of electronic music since its attraction began in the 90s. Influenced by his father as a child and guided on the piano and other instruments by his uncle Rafael Burgos Lemoine, his ability to transcend genres and trends has seen to have one of the most consistent levels of success of any modern DJ / Producer.
Right hand of Afrobeta Bodega, DJ from Santo Domingo whose beginnings can be traced back to the year 2000 as a resident of Ocho Puertas; where together with Max Pela, they lived the growing boom of tribal and progressive house in the Dominican Republic.
Today, Zayas is known for his ability to travel among the diverse subgenres of House music, focusing more on his passion for Deep, Disco, Nu Disco, Indie House, Funk, Soulful, Tech and Afro House.
One of the projects he is involved in with good friends Jay Medina & Jorge Serra, is Deep² Records, a collective made up strictly of individuals who share common passions that revolve around music, art, and culture. Based in Boston, MA and Santo Domingo, RD.
Zayas has shared the stage in the Dominican Republic with a large number of international DJs such as Little Louie Vega, Andy Caldwell, Willy Graff, Alix Alvarez, Ray Okpara, Wolf + Lamb, Cuartero, Adam Shelton, Jamie Jones, Davide Squillace, Adriatique, Martin Buttrich, System of Survival, John Creamer, Kaskade, Jay Prasad, Roger Sanchez, Sander kleinenberg, J Davey Group, Waajeed and many others.
DESIGN / On the Graphic Design side, he currently owns VDK. Multimedia Agency and Vodkarela. dedicated to managing international and local clients such as Afrobeta Bodega, Osunlade (Yoruba Records), Casamena (Ocha Records), Ezel (Bayacou Records), Edlive Events, Visionario Radio (RD), Pav Events, Haketi, Vicente Garcia, Including many clients overseas such as Puerto Rico, United States, Spain, among others.
Jorge Serra (Deep² / Late Nite Amigos)
Jorge was born in 1981 in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). He grew up surrounded by musicians; his uncle being vocalist in La Familia Andres, and later with Chichi Peralta + Son Familia (both “son” music bands). He discovered the world of electronic music at an early age and fell in love with it, house and tech house being his favorite genres.
At 17, he bought his first set of turntables and a few old disco, house and afro-percussion albums. He began teaching himself to mix. In 2005, he moved to the USA. Since then he has been polishing his skills, and has taken classes at the renowned Dubspot DJ and Production School in New York City. In 2013 he joined Afrobeta Bodega, and started House of Pela with Max Pela (Afrobeta Bodega) and Jay Medina (Afrobeta Bodega/JMVJ), Was a resident DJ along with JAY MEDINA of the long running weekly party Deep & Soulful @ CANDIBAR Boston, and currently one of the resident DJ’s at the weekly UNDERGROUND House music party MOTION at ICON in Boston’s downtown area.
He has played alongside such talented artists as Max Pela, DJ Sabine, Osunlade, Djinji Brown, DJ Bruno, House Head Pete, DJ Cruzz, Jose Marquez, Helen Ting, M Bueno and Barton Nicholls.
He has played in numerous venues including CAPRICE (Boston – MA), FELT (Boston – MA), NAGA (Cambridge – MA), SORRISO (Boston, MA), WHITE RABBIT (New York – NY), VON (New York – NY), PULPERIA ON ESSEX (New York, NY),CANDIBAR BOSTON (Boston, MA), MACHINE (Boston,MA), ICON (Boston, MA), MOHAO CAFE (Santo Domingo – DR).
Jay Medina (Deep² / Late Nite Amigos / Afrobeta Bodega)
Jay Medina is a DJ and & Visual Projection artist from the city of Boston. His love for music began at an early age in the Dominican Republic, growing up surrounded by afro/latin sounds as well as the house movement of the 1990’s, developing an unique eclectic style of his music. Since 2001 Jay has been involved in the DJ culture scene as a VJ at various local events turning his earlier interest of DJing into a passion that he pursues today.
In 2013, he began the monthly party “House of Pela” with Max Pela and Jorge Serra opening for main acts such as Osunlade, Mike Steva, Helen Ting, Jose Marquez among others, mastering the art of DJing while running visuals at the same time.
He has been the resident DJ/VJ of many events in and around Boston, including Uhuru Afrika (http://www.uhuruafrika.com/); playing with Boston’s finest DJs: Max Pela, DJ Bruno, Cruzz, K.C. Hallett, Adam Gibbons, as well as respected out of town DJ/Producers: Ron Trent, Black Coffee, Ezel, Julius The MadThinker, Rich Medina Culoe de song and Ian Friday. Other events include DISCO-NNECTION (Kon, John Morales, Natasha Diggs) and SweetShop (Golf Clap, Fred Falke, Amine Edge, Ryan Crosson, Anna Lunoe). His current residencies includes Late Nite Amigo, Deep and Soulful in the Sugar room, House of Pela with Max Pela and Jorge Serra, and DISCO-NNECTION with DJ Serge Gamesbourg.
Medina’s Love for VJing began in 2007 as a personal project. With use of live video mixing tools such as Arkaos GrandVJ, Modul8 and MadMapper he delivers a crossroads experience between nightlife, cinema, and the visual arts.
Bob Diesel (Deep²)
Bob Diesel is a New York native transplanted to Massachusetts in 1987. He started dj’ing at the early age of 13 playing along with his brother at lodge functions, weddings and private parties. His musical knowledge came from his parents, children of the jazz revolution in Harlem New York. From their eclectic taste he had experienced a wide range of music, Classical, British and American Rock, Country, Latin, Blues, R&B, and Soul Music sounds.
To his credit, Bob has performed in Canada, Mexico and overseas in the Far East and Europe. He is a member of the group “Vinylmaniacs”, a trio of veteran radio and nightclub DJ’s that feature Timmy Allen and Maurice “Mojavi” Wilkey that play un-scripted and simultaneously Deep House Music, Rare Grooves and Percussion tracks with (3) pairs of turntables, (3) effects processors and (3) mixers. He is also a member of the Boston Housemusic Coalition. To his credit, Bob has performed in Canada, Mexico and overseas in the Far East and Europe. Bob is also a proud member of the Boston Housemusic Coalition also has a Boston based bi-weekly radio program “Progressive Black” on WZBC FM 90.3 Newton / Boston, MA with fellow Boston DJ and Boston Housemusic Coalition member Keith Donaldson and Byoosik.
